When I was young I drew a lot. And I observed the world and how it looked, and why things appeared as they did. This has always been a fascination of mine all my life. In high school I was part of the advance art class, and won a few art contest. Advancing into college, I was greeted by so many other artists. Their talents were so inspiring, I drew and painted and created more and more.
After graduating I got my first corporate job in graphic design. I was so excited to be working for a travel magazine! Then reality hit in, I was not allow to design anything, I just had to recreate what other people told me to create. I felt like I was just part of an assembly line. No body talked and we were not allowed to listen to music, grey walls and no windows.
Then I got a job with a photographer. This job was definitely more fun! It was more family style photography, but the photographer was very creative. He could make it look like the little children were in a classic oil painting. He was good at capturing moments and expressions. While we only did a few weddings, my favorite part of the job was working on the wedding album with the bride. The photographer and I coordinated together to build albums with unique styles you couldn’t get from your standard albums at the time.
Unfortunately, I was not making much income at this job, and I had student loans to pay. I was also loosing my passion for doing art outside of my job. So, I found a job in the mortgage industry. I was surprised but I loved it! Working with numbers and helping people was a calling out of the blue.
Now it is 15 years later and I am missing my childhood dream of being a professional artist. But I want there to be a purpose to my drawings and my art. I also want the passion that art brings back into my life. And so, this blog was born. I want to share both my techniques of how to draw as I have a love for sharing knowledge. And I want to share my art journal, to keep this site more personal and hopefully inspire others.
Enjoy!
